Odd Fellows

Capitol Hill, Seattle

Odd Fellows has a trendy, hipster vibe – it is giant warehouse space with high ceilings, intimate wooden tables, wood paneling on the walls, and a dessert and coffee bar with high metal stools and chalk board menus.  The menu, printed on a piece of paper, has something for everyone.

The atmosphere makes you want to sit all night – unfortunately, the staff does not.  The laid back, late night coffee shop vibe turned out to be just for show – the server could not have been more eager to move our table in and out.  My friend and I camped out with our laptops and had planned to work for a few hours – I know this is a restaurant’s nightmare so we tried to order the requisite amount of food and drinks so that we could enjoy the table guilt free but no such luck – we were asked multiple times if we needed anything else and made to feel very uncomfortable, despite other tables remaining unfilled.  The food was tasty – I had an arugula and spinach lasagna in red sauce that was flavorful and light (not usually an adjective I think of when describing lasagna) – but the experience was over shadowed by the staff.

Maybe it’s a better spot to linger over an afternoon coffee – the baked goods looked delicious – but I don’t think I’ll go back to find out.
